Growing to increase our impact

FDOI EXPANSION PROJECT

The Need Is Growing

Food insecurity is rising across Montréal, and the West Island is no exception. At FDOI, food assistance requests have increased by more than 15% this year alone, with first-time users, single-parent families, children, and working adults among the fastest-growing groups.

More and more, the people turning to food banks are people who are working, raising families, and doing everything they can to make ends meet.

So We’re Growing Too

To respond to this growing need, FDOI has purchased a new building that will allow us to expand our impact.

Today, we operate in a space that is too small and too scattered to keep up.

Our new home is more than four times the size of our current space, creating room to serve more residents and increase the support our community relies on.

The new space will expand our core programs and introduce several new services.

New shared spaces will allow for closer collaboration with other local organizations to offer even more programs for women, children, seniors and newcomers.

The result: a new community hub built for the West Island.

Growing to feed more families
With increased storage and distribution capacity, FDOI’s food bank will be able to serve more households across the West Island while maintaining the quality and variety of food baskets.
Growing
to transform food into opportunity
The new community kitchen will allow us to transform surplus fresh food into nutritious meals. This will help reduce food waste while increasing the number of meals we can provide to people in need.
Growing
to ensure no one feels alone
Food insecurity and social isolation often go hand in hand.

The new community bistro will provide a welcoming place where people can share an affordable meal, connect with others, and feel part of their community.

Growing
to make essentials more affordable
The Deuxième Vie thrift shop will provide affordable clothing and household items for families who need them, helping people stretch their budgets and access everyday essentials.
Growing
to connect people with the help
they need
The expanded space will allow FDOI to offer additional services and work more closely with community partners, making it easier for people to access the support they need under one roof.
Growing
to transform food into opportunity
Revenue from the thrift shop, community kitchen, and bistro will be reinvested directly into FDOI’s programs, helping create a more sustainable model of community support.

Help us build the support our community needs

This project is already underway.

FDOI has invested over $1 million into the purchase and development of the new building. Renovations and planning are moving forward to bring this vision to life.

But we cannot do it alone.

With your support, we can complete this expansion and build a community hub the West Island can rely on for year to come.
